‘Da Michele’ is the first authentic pizzeria in Napoli, where the pizza was first popularised back in the 1870’s.
Michele came from a line of pizzaioli and their restaurant became world famous. Celebrities from all over the world still come to eat here. You can see from the picture the queues on the roadside and you have to wait weeks to book a table or take pot luck and join the queue and wait.
Such is their popularity that sometimes the queue is so long they run out of fresh ingredients! There are only two types of pizza available, the traditional Margarita (in honour of Queen Margarita of Napoli) or La Marinara (in honour of the Neapolitan fishermen.) Then a traditional expresso ends a perfect lunch!
